Some early results show:

  1. Average Ivy League acceptance rate is less than 5%. Nearly 50% of classes filled early.
  2. Widening gap between ED and RD seen at institutions such as Brown and at Rice and Northeastern the introduction of ED II for the former and for transfer students at the latter.
  3. Surge in public southern universities with institutions such as UVA showing admissions data that is as competitive as many private institutions. Academic rigour, lifestyle and a less ‘woke agenda’, perceived or otherwise as some of the reasons.

Yale just made the news this week. Yale announced — just days ago — that it is fully restoring its pre-pandemic requirement for the ACT or SAT, having previously allowed AP, IB, SAT, or ACT scores. The Presidential Council on Yale College Admissions recommended the return after internal research showed students with stronger test scores consistently earned higher GPAs once enrolled. For the class entering this fall, 92% of applicants included an ACT or SAT score.

International students facing significant uncertainty. The Trump administration has created a turbulent environment for international students — revoking SEVIS records, implementing travel bans, freezing visa interviews for several weeks, and attempting to bar Harvard from hosting international students. New international student enrolment at US colleges dropped 17% in the most recent fall compared to the year before.

Harvard’s legal battle ongoing. Federal court orders are currently blocking the government from acting on its attempt to revoke Harvard’s ability to enrol international students, meaning Harvard can continue issuing visa documents and hosting students for now — but full legal resolution is still pending.

SAT/ LNAT/ACT Required or Accepted (please note the difference) at European Universities

The following comments are made from the data available at the universities mentioned:

Italy: Bocconi which as seen a huge rise in popularity for business in the last decade requires a high SAT score which accounts for 55% of any given application. Bocconi’s QS ranking of ranked #7 in QS WUR Ranking in 2025 has supported its popularity. If students do not offer SAT, then there is a Maths test that is required.

Spain: IE Madrid requires a minimum of 1200 SAT score, and learning Spanish is compulsory. ACT is also accepted; there is also the option of taking the Maths test and LNAT is compulsory for law applicants which makes the LNAT test prep applicable to some UK applications as well.

Institutions in France that accept SAT/AP scores for undergraduate admission:

  • American University of Paris — the most prominent US-style institution in France
  • ESCP Europe Business School, Paris
  • IAU College France / American College of the Mediterranean
  • Management Institute of Paris
  • Parsons Paris
  • Sciences Po — one of France’s most prestigious grandes écoles
  • Université René Descartes – Paris 5

France raising tuition fees for non-EU students. France has directed universities to charge mandatory higher tuition fees to non-EU international students starting September 2026, as part of a new strategy called “Choose France for Higher Education.” No more than 10% of students will be exempted, with most exceptions for scholarship holders. Priority disciplines for grants include health, AI, quantum science, biotechnology, and energy. This could benefit Germany, which still charges non-EU students only modest semester fees.

Booming demand for STEM and English-taught programmes. Applications for STEM, AI, healthcare, and business courses have spiked by 25% across the EU, and over 3,000 new English-taught master’s programmes have been added in Germany, France, and Italy combined.
